COCOA’S STORY
It is indescribable to feel when trying a chocolate bar, enjoy on a rainy day a cup of hot or the comfort that gives you a delicious chocolate covered in a creamy and sweet one. It is that this golden treasure came to us as a gift from the gods to heal the sorrows of the soul and give us unforgettable moments of happiness.
More than 3500 years tells our story of its discovery when by accident our indigenous parents from Central America instead of using the pepas of cocoa fruit used the pulp to create beer fermenting and discarding their remains, at that time chocolate was ignored as we know it today.
We had to wait 300 years later to start using cocoa seeds only in this case they were also fermented and as a result a bitter but very valuable taste drink was created that looked frothy and was served on special occasions as marriages or births there finally the rich chocolate appeared.
It is said that the pioneers in savoring the chocolate drink were the Olmecas extending their cultivation in the Mayan and Aztec cultures a series of events regarding cocoa arose over time becoming once a monetary unit and reason that there were known religious rituals until the recognition of the virtues of this fruit.
On our island during the discovery cocoa was ignored by Christopher Columbus; it was not until the appearance of Hernán Cortés in 1502 that from here he brought cocoa to Spain 28 years later.
Then he came to France, to England along with tea from China and coffee and so in 1585 the first Iberian chocolate bars were born giving an incredible turn to our world with this fantastic gift of nature.
