BRUGAL
Brugal (Brugal & Co.) is a brand that sells rum from the Dominican Republic internationally. The company, the only one in the world that produces it entirely in this country, has a distillery in San Pedro de Macoris and an aging and bottling plant in Puerto Plata. Among its most common variants are the Brugal Anejo and the special white Brugal, which is used mostly for mixing drinks, thereby gaining a great international reputation.
In the second half of the nineteenth century, Andres Brugal Montaner, a Spanish citizen who emigrated from Sitges (Barcelona) to Santiago de Cuba, decides to move to the Dominican Republic to settle in Puerto Plata. While in Cuba, Andres gained experience in rum production and based on this experience, founded Brugal & Co. in Puerto Plata in 1888 (the date gives the name to one of the rum of the brand).
In 1920, the first warehouses were built for aging Rum in oak barrels, which gave rise to the category of Golden Rums in this sector.
In 1976, with "Extraviejo", the company also established a premium Rums segment in the Dominican Republic. 22 years later, in 1998, Brugal & Co. launches “Brugal Limón”, “Pasión” y “Brugal Único”.
In 2005, the company started using 5-liter steel barrels for dispensing its medium and low-level brands.
Currently it has the following assortment: Brugal Añejo, XV, 1888, Extra Dry, Suspiro y Siglo de Oro.
