ORIGIN OF THE LARIMAR
Edgar Casey (1877-1945), a well-known American medium, predicted that traces of the missing Atlantis would be found on one of the Caribbean islands. His prophecies announced the discovery of the blue stone, his prediction being true, discovering long after the existence of this famous Gem with extraordinary virtues known until today.
Hispaniola, is an island divided between two countries, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, this was the first of the "New World" discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492.
The island was formed due to a volcanic eruption about 100 million years ago. Creating a new mountain, the Sierra de Bahoruco, in the southwestern country and part of the Haitian territory.
The Larimar formation is distinguished by Andesites and basalts. Created by volcanic phenomena that interfered in the union of chemical elements arising a very rare association in nature. Silicon, oxygen, sodium and calcium particles left Blue and Green tones as a characteristic of this stone.
In Geology it is known by the name of Pectolites. A type of secondary rock subjected to high temperatures, is in a boiling state, produces a crystallization known as Pectolite.
Its crystallization is due to the fact that it was carried out within the volcanic chimneys, as the incandescent gases were expelled, this environmental change was carried out. Therefore, the exploitation of the Larimar deposit depends on the location of these. Leading to deeper mining.
The Larimar deposit until now recognized is located in Los Chupaderos, in the Checes area, 7 kilometers northwest of La Ciénaga and 10 km southwest of Barahona. It is a volcanic complex composed mainly of porphyritic andesites and basalts (volcanic rocks), in this region the existence of layers of eogenic limestone due to ancient volcanic activity is common.
Larimar is found in the form of small inclusions that fill the cavities formed by gas leaks during basalt crystallization.
These generally tend to be oval and concentric with a core, often white due to the concentration of calcium oxide (CaO) giving the appearance on the stone of a beautiful sky with bluish cloud patterns.
Behold the infinite blue sky you can reach with a piece of the beautiful Larimar!
