Amber is a fossilized resin of an extinct tree called Hymenaea Courbaril, a species that grew in the Tertiary Geological Period. In the Caribbean it is known as Algarroba. Most of this resin found in the Dominican Republic is in the northern mountain range between the city of Santiago and Puerto Plata called by the locals The Amber Coast.
